No... No... Notorious!

Likenesses aren't really my thing. I'm actually pretty bad it. But today I just wanted to chill out and paint a portrait of someone for practice and fun. And the Notorious BIG's an interesting looking guy.

I like all types on music. MF Doom, Johnny Cash and the Grease soundtrack all get equal love from me. But my collection leans heavily into hip hop.

I've always liked the Notorious BIG. I'm usually more of an underground / independent kind of guy, but I think Biggy has a place in everyone's collection. He's not a supermodel by any stretch of the imagination, but his personality is so strong he can come off as the smoothest dude around.

In the end, I think this only bears a passing resemblance. But he was just a starting point and it was just for fun. I'm not going to sweat it.

i'm blowin' up like you thought i would...

I love Street Fighter 2, I Just Really Hate Zangief. Part 2.

Did you see my Zangief post in A Day in the Life? I actually didn't care for the sketch all that much, and I wanted to flesh it out a little.

So I made found this vintage poster of my hairy hero.

zangief; real american russian hero.

Favicon!?! More like LEAST Favicon.

I just got back from a week in New York City. Lindsay and I visited PrintSource and DIRECTION : The International Textile Design Show.

We also ran around the city having a fun, expensive and scandalous time. Big-ups to my brother and Jesse for being awesome and braving the cold with us all week. Although when we got back to frigid Minneapolis we realized that the NYC cold was downright tropical by comparison.

I didn't take any pictures because I suck at finding my camera's power adapter. I did do some drawing, but not as much as I had hoped to do. I only could find the time while waiting in line or in the dark on a bumpy flight.

So I don't have a lot to show.

Except...! I did make a Favicon for http://hajny.com! I hope it works. I taught myself, and I usually screw up the first couple tries. But it works on my browsers, so that's good enough for me.

Here's what is should look like.

Here's a huge version (the real deal is 16 pixels x 16 pixels).

I might make a new one later if I want to practice drawing on a pixel-by-pixel level. It's harder than it looks.

Mind my Business (card).

Here's the business card I just sent off the printers. I decided (with some help) that the direction I was headed (see previous post) was too much stuff for a tiny card. So I stripped it way back and pumped up the size of the text and just made it simpler.

front. this is the front.

back. this is the back.

I like it. But I've also decided to only order in tiny quantities. I only need them right now for my trip to NYC, and after that I'll just keep making new cards. I'll never be able to live with the same card for more than a couple months, anyway.

Huzzah. Now, lets hope they get back to me in time for my trip! I'm so bad.

more like busy-ness. right?

Here's an in progresses shot of a business card I'm working on. Just a quickie for my trip to NYC next week.

I was excited about it. Until about 15 minutes ago. It's okay. I have to try really hard to unlock the awesome, though. It's probably too late for the trip, though. Oops. Oh well.

I'm not done, and I'll keep going even if it doesn't end up an impromptu business card. I even have a good idea for the back, too.

Oh, and incase you only read posts with pictures and missed the last one, my new site is up.

new site. again!

I just put up my newly redesigned site. Maybe re-organized is a better word. But it's different, and there's more stuff.

It was the first order of business after I finished the City Pages illustration. And now it's done and up for everyone to enjoy.

As always : http://hajny.com.

Thanks best friend.

Quick! Run to the nearest Minneapolis / St. Paul newsstand and pick up the January 2nd issue of the City Pages!

Flip it open to the A-List on page 39 to see this :

hey! i recognize that stylish blend of cute and grotesque!

If you're wondering the context, the Minnesota Timberwolves mascot, Crunch, is doing battle with the mascots of the other teams they'll be playing this week. I think Dallas, Denver, and Miami.

And here's the illustration in all of it's non-printed glory...
