A Germ who can Hurl.

I'm sick, thanks to the stupid, dumb, sick, stupid-heads that were on my flight back from New York City a couple days ago.

I hate being sick, and I don't like lying around all too much, either.

To keep myself entertained, this morning I drew a germ and posted it in A Day in the Life.

Then I got bored again, so this afternoon did another version of the lil' guy.

Viola. A ralphing germ who blows mighty chunks.

(snake) head in the clouds.

Just practicing. For fun. And for honor.

Ok, not for honor. Just for fun.

the snake in his natural habitat : wrapped around a dude's arm above the orange clouds but inside some pink ones.

ghosts like bones too.

Here's another part of the super-duper-natural illustration I'm working on.

omg. he loves that bone.

I was in New York City the past week for a Licensing Show, so I didn't get as much done as I might have otherwise. But the trip was way sweet, so no big whoop. I have a small flickr gallery of shenanigans and general tomfoolery from the trip. (I'll be updating over the next day or two).

Paper Bicycle site.

I just uploaded the new Paper Bicycle website. Paper Bicycle is the print / pattern resource Lindsay started recently. It's going to pretty awesome.

Right now the site is just a preview until we are ready to roll out all the features and stuff. The site was designed by both Lindsay and I. We bounced the design and layout of the site back and forth, and when we were happy with it I html'ed it up.

J Dilla.

J Dilla was, and still is, a huge influence on me. His non-stop creativity and insatiable work ethic made me respect him as much as his ability to create music that's at the same time beautiful, dusty, seemingly unpolished but entirely intentional and cohesive.

J Dilla passed away in February of this year. I finally decided the piece I wanted to make last night.

Sorry to be such a downer. Next post will be much more lighthearted, promise.

(edit : june 24, 2007 : changed color. slightly.)

Hey, another Paper Bicycle promo! I guess that's what happens when you have two ways of working, and you never want to hurt the other's feelings....

Once again, two versions. The one sans-text will probably end up being used, I just like playing around with text.

red. just like the hair on your stepchild.

text is totally cool. text messaging is totally uncool.

So that's it for today. Good times were had by all.

I made these to be part of a promo piece Paper Bicycle is sending out. All the artists are making a simple little bicycle for a mailer.

I made two versions, and I assume the brighter of the two will be used. Although I like the darker, personally.

wait... is that a ghost bicycle? i'm scared.

oh wait. that's no ghost. it's just magical.

I posted a sweet, scary sketch in A Day in the Life and it's blossomed into an idea for a full blown illustration.

Here's the first pass at the central character, separated from any context.

it's a g-g-ghost! p-p-probably from before color TV was i-i-invented!

I have a lot of work on my plate right now, but I hope to get this whole thing complete quickly and efficiently. So far so good, but let's hope it doesn't end up another casualty in the "dead projects" folder on my hard drive.

A snake in the hand is worth two in the pants.

Here's some fun. I was just doodling. I'm still trying to get used to this whole wacom thing.

that skull on the hand is a sign. a sign of being totally rad.

Maybe it should go in A Day in the Life. Sometimes I don't know. Life's too hard.

Fun with Type?

I am a details person. Little details matter. A lot of times, the final attention to detail can bring a piece from "meh" to "wow."

I was playing around with hajny.com today, changing a few things here and there. It's slightly different now, but you wouldn't know unless you were pretty familiar with previous design.

But it made me want to play with some grey on grey text. Call me crazy.

#1 - the original, nice enough, right?

#2 - ohhhh, much nicer....?

#3 - reversed, and exaggerated a bit. maybe not quite at nice.

That's it, the end. #2 wins. Or maybe not. Maybe #1 is the best. I can't tell anymore.

Sorry my "fun" diversions don't always equal a riveting read. I declare this post the most boring post ever. I can do that, being the mayor of this blog and all.
